This System4 Aircon – The centralized air conditioning system is used to cool the whole building, including multi-storey building, shopping malls, commercial building, hotel ballrooms, etc. Hence, a large air conditioning system is needed with its capacity to cool a large area in the shortest possible time. In order to do that, the system requires a ducting to distribute the cool/cold air generated from the cooling plant. The ducting is usually installed at the ceiling of the floor area to be cooled, either not visible when concealed in the ceiling with only its supply grille can be seen or the whole ducting structure is visible just beneath the ceiling.
There are two methods of air conditioning i.e. Air Cooling Method and Water Cooling Method. However, In Malaysia the Air Cooling Method is not suitable due to its hot climate. Primarily, this method uses a blower, evaporator and compressor kept in a package within the building, whereas the condensing unit is placed outside the building and system will use the environmental air to cool the condenser which is a problem for a hot country like ours.
The other method, Water Cooling Method is a better option, whereby the blower, condenser and compressor are kept in a package within the building itself whilst the outdoor unit consists of the cooling tower with a capacity of up to 50 Tons. The cooling tower uses water and its function is to cool the condenser. The system is supported by Air Handling Unit (AHU) which acts like an evaporator (cooling coils) but in a large scale and it is located to the areas to be cooled usually located at each level of the building. This AHU is equipment with cooling coil and a fan with some of them also includes air filters. The function of the AHU is to absorb the air from the rooms and channels along the cold water cooling coils, after which it returns the chilled air back into the rooms.
It is not practical and economically viable to install many window or split air conditioners in the building or the rooms of the building, so using the centralized air conditioning system is the most appropriate solution if the whole building or the rooms within the building is to be cooled.
